Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society

The sound you are hearing is FWRHS' #765

The pride of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society is the famed 765. It served the NYC & St.L for many years pulling freight between Bellevue, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois. It was retired from service in 1958 and sat idle before being returned to service in 1972. Since then, it has pulled passenger excursions all over the country including the famous New River Gorge excursions  through the New River Gorge in West Virginia. The locomotive went  into restoration in 1992 and spent the next 13 years being rebuilt. The locomotive came out of restoration in October 2005 ready to serve again. Connor and I ventured out to see her during the FWRHS's open house showing her off during her very first steam up. Some brake issues prevented her from moving around so we went back the following summer to watch her being moved. Although she hasn't yet pulled any excursions since her rebuild, she is expected to pull some during the highly anticipated Train Fest 2009. Can't wait! Read her full story here

In May of 2009, the 765 pulled her very first public excursion after her extensive rebuild. The excursions were pulled out of North Judson, Indiana.  There was a runby at one point on the way back. Although the crowd wasn't too cooperative, I got some pretty decent video.

After the train ride, we took a drive to Chicago for dinner. We ate at the "Art of Pizza." I was told and further read that they serve some of the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. Words can't express how good it was.
